This activity-based course covers Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for packaging and shipping lithium batteries for transport by highway within the United States. The course focuses on lithium batteries that qualify for DOT exceptions. You'll be presented with three shipping situations involving common types of lithium batteries found in workplaces. For each situation, you'll identify the type of batteries being shipped, select the appropriate entry from the DOT Hazardous Materials Table, and determine what exception applies and how it affects the packaging, marking, labeling, and preparation of shipping papers for each type of lithium battery. This course does not address the requirements for shipping lithium batteries by aircraft, rail, or vessel. Nor does it cover fully regulated batteries, which have more stringent requirements than those being shipped under an exception.
