Ebola is a very dangerous virus that spreads through direct contact with an infected person's blood or other bodily fluids, such as sweat, vomit, and diarrhea. The virus can enter the body through the mucous membranes – in the mouth, nose, or eyes – or through breaks in the skin. The Ebola virus causes sudden, severe illness, with a very high average fatality rate of 60%. Washing your hands frequently and thoroughly may help prevent this and many other types of illnesses and infections.
