Lithium batteries are used as power sources in a wide variety of equipment. Although they're useful, these batteries can pose a risk to health, safety, and property when they're transported. This course covers Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for packaging and shipping lithium batteries for transport by highway within the United States. The course focuses on lithium batteries that qualify for DOT exceptions. This course does not address the requirements for shipping lithium batteries by aircraft, rail, or vessel. Nor does it cover fully regulated batteries, which have more stringent requirements than those being shipped under an exception.
This course was developed with subject matter support provided by EnSafe Inc., a global professional services company focusing on engineering, environment, health and safety, and information technology.
